With the cancellation of the Russian Grand Prix due to the war in Ukraine, it is 3 weeks to wait until the next race. The Singapore Grand Prix will be held in the first week of October.
Nyck de Vries travelled to Italy to drive the first practice for Aston Martin. That all changed with Alexander Albon being diagnosed with appendicitis and therefore need to have surgery right away. De Vries took part tot the FP3 being only less than one tenth slower than his new teammate Nicholas Latifi.
In qualifying Nyck showed what his is capable of, be reaching Q2 whilst Latifi wasn’t able to make it. He finished Q2 in 13th, because a lot of driver received penalties for changing (motor)components De Vries moved up and could start the race on Sunday from 8th place on the grid.
On Sunday Nyck de Vries continues his strong performance and was able to finish in 9th securing 2 points for the championship. To put this in to perspective, Williams scored 4 points in total this entire season. These 4 points were all score by Alexander Albon. So what Latifi wasn’t able to do for 16 races, Nyck did this in his first ever Formula 1 race.
In 2004 Rubens Barrichello set a new lap record at 1:21.046 with the Ferrari F2004. 18 years later the records still holds and isn’t broken so far. During the 2022 Italian Grand Prix the fastest race lap was a 1:24.030 driven by Sergio Pérez almost 3 seconds slower then the lap from Barrichello in 2004. Will this record ever been broken?
After another podium for George Russell he finished 15 out of 16 races in the top 5 this season. The only race George didn’t finished in the top 5 was the British Grand Prix where he came into contact with Guanyu Zhou before the first corner of the first lap of the race and couldn’t continue.
With his podium during the Italian Grand Prix, his finished on the podium 7 times this season so far.
Since 2008 the Singapore Grand Prix is being held at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, but we’ve missed the 2020 and 2021 version of the Grand prix due to COVID. After 3 years of absence Formula 1 will return to Singapore on October 2nd, with the race in the evening.
It’s fair to say that Sebastian Vettel is the king on Marina Bay Street Circuit. If we take a look at the stats Vettel is dominating the stats on this street circuit in Singapore. He holds the record for wins (5), pole positions (4)*, podiums (8) and laps driven (668) at the circuit.
* this record is shared with Lewis Hamilton, they both had 4 pole positions.
When nothing strange happen and Fernando Alonso starts the Singapore Grand Prix he will be the driver with the most Formula 1 race starts. Since the race at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza he shares the record with Kimi Räikkönen with both started 249 Formula 1 Grand Prix’s.
